VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar carried out a joint inspection of the railway double-tracking work site at Shantinagar along with railway officials and outgoing ward councillor Shraddha Mahale, directing authorities to urgently address civic issues arising due to the ongoing project.
During the inspection, local residents raised concerns over disrupted civic infrastructure, including poor lighting, drainage problems, and difficulties in accessing their homes following the execution of the double-tracking works.
Salkar instructed railway officials to take up pending restoration works on priority and ensure that essential amenities affected by the project are restored without delay.
Addressing residents, the MLA said he has been consistently following up with railway authorities and recently held discussions with senior officials in Hubballi regarding issues faced by people living along the railway corridor.
He stated that several residents had expressed concerns over the impact of the project on their homes and daily life, adding that he had taken up the matter with senior railway officials. He also said that with the intervention and support of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, houses earlier proposed for demolition were protected.
Salkar stressed that development projects should not come at the cost of public inconvenience and safety, adding that basic civic facilities must be restored without delay.
He further directed railway authorities to ensure sufficient space is maintained along the railway alignment to allow emergency vehicle access, particularly for ambulances during medical emergencies.
The MLA also announced plans to develop an unused open plot in the area, currently overgrown with weeds, into a community space. He said proposals include a children’s playground and an open gym to benefit local residents and improve the neighbourhood’s public amenities.
