VASCO: In a heartfelt gesture of support, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar personally extended financial assistance to four shopkeepers whose businesses were impacted by a fire incident at the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Sunday Market.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours, completely gutted two shops while partially affecting two others. While the government had assured financial aid to the victims, Salkar stepped forward with immediate relief from his own pocket, acknowledging the daily struggles of small business owners.
“We had assured them of government assistance, but I realized the process could take time. These shopkeepers rely on daily earnings to sustain their families, and a prolonged closure would be a significant hardship. I decided to personally assist them so they can repair their shops and resume their businesses at the earliest,” Salkar stated.
Emphasizing the humanitarian aspect of his contribution, Salkar expressed his gratitude to the shopkeepers who have supported him since his tenure as a councillor. “They have always stood by me, and in their time of difficulty, it is my duty to stand by them,” he added.
The timely financial aid is expected to help the affected shopkeepers restore their businesses and bring back a sense of normalcy to their lives.
