VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Monday inaugurated the sewerage connection works in Mangor at a cost of ₹11.6 lakh. The event was attended by Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker, ward councillor Narayan Borker, and other dignitaries.
Speaking to the media, Salkar highlighted the importance of addressing sewerage issues in the densely populated Mangor area. “This project is crucial for Mangor, which has many houses. Vasco city has been grappling with severe sewerage problems, with leakage causing an unbearable stench and splashing on residents when vehicles pass through sewage-filled roads,” he stated.
Salkar further elaborated on broader initiatives planned for the city. “We have proposed sewerage projects in multiple parts of Vasco. Tenders have been issued for setting up sewage pumping stations at Orulem and Belabai. Similar stations are also planned at Mainolem, and the land acquisition process for a sewage station at Kharewado is underway. Our aim is to ensure proper sewerage systems across Vasco.”
The MLA emphasized that the Mangor project marks a significant step in these efforts and announced that sewerage works in Sasmolem would commence soon, with work orders expected within a week.
“This densely populated area requires immediate attention, and we are committed to resolving sewerage issues across Vasco,” Salkar concluded.
The local residents welcomed the initiative, expressing hope for improved sanitation and infrastructure in the region.
