Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Friday morning submitted a memorandum to the Railway authorities demanding special trains between Vasco and Vailankanni on account of the annual feast on 8th September.
Salkar submitted the memorandum to Vasco Railway station manager Bipul Kumar in the presence of Mormugao Municipal Council ( MMC ) Chairperson Leo Rodrigues, Councillors Deepak Naik, Girish Borker and others.
” We are all aware that tbe Vailankanni Feast will start and Goan devotees in thousands go to Vailankanni to attend the Novenas and the feast . We have submitted a memorandum to Railways much in advance to put additional trains to clear extra rush and ensure that the pilgrims get best facilities dont face any inconvenience during their travel to the holy place.
Usually the tain leaves from Vasco on 27th August and reaches Vailankanni on 28th August and returns from there to Goa on the same night ( 28th ) and because of this the pilgrims don’t get much time and only pray and return back. We have now requested the Railways to make the Vailankanni train halt there for two days so that pilgrims get enough time to visit the shrine, offer prayers, attend novenas and return back.
We have requested the Railways that the train which departs on 27th August to halt till on 28th and 29th and return back on the 30th August so that pilgrims can get to attend a novena and complete the pilgrimage. ” Said Salkar
Salkar said that he will personally speak alos with the South Western Railway Divisional Railway Manager in this regards
‘We have also asked the Railways to extend the trains service because the trains depart from Vasco only on Monday. We have asked the Railways to put an additional train in service because one train cannot accommodate so many pilgrims and people also don’t get tickets. An additional train will ensure that there is no rush and people will also get tickets easily to attend the feast and offer prayers at Vailankanni ” said Salkar
