PANAJI: Vedanta Sesa Goa, a forerunner in adopting industry leading safety practices & promoting awareness towards safety, has successfully concluded a series of impact-driven activities, as part of its pan Sesa-Goa Campaign ‘Safety is Us’, intended at reinforcing the company’s commitment to safety through various initiatives aimed at creating a safer community and workplace environment.
The activities aimed at imbuing the spirit of safety consciousness within the organisation & beyond. This included safety awareness programs for employees, business partners, and communities. The activities revolved around the theme of “Safety Leadership for ESG Excellence,” reinforcing Vedanta’s commitment to upholding sustainable safety practices.
The ‘Safety is Us’ campaign aims to enhance safety consciousness and further strengthen Vedanta Sesa Goa’s commendable safety record. Regular internal audits and stringent checks are performed to ensure that highest standards of safety are maintained while interfacing with the communities.
Focussing on the theme – vehicle and driving safety – which is relevant within the industry and for the community, the community engagement drive emphasised upon safe and cautious driving practices. Cutting across geography, Vedanta Sesa Goa expanded the ‘Safety is Us’ campaign to communities in Goa, Maharashtra & Gujarat.
Recognizing the crucial role of young people in promoting safety, Vedanta Sesa Goa places a special focus on children. These future ambassadors for safety messaging participate in educational programs designed to equip them with vital safety knowledge. This included key awareness programs in Goa, (Maharashtra), and Lunva (Gujarat), benefiting over 400 students. These sessions imparted useful information about safe driving, appropriate road behavior, and the need to inculcate safety awareness in one’s day to day life. The students eagerly participated and signed a safety pledge, promising to be a safe driver and to promote safe driving.
The campaign also ropes in prominent personalities to endorse the message on safety and Dr Pramod Sawant, Hon’ble CM, Goa participated in one such engagement at a school in Goa. He was also handed over specially designed collaterals on the ‘Safety is Us’ campaign, and he appreciated the initiative & said that “‘Safety is Us’ is an excellent initiative and continue promoting it enthusiastically to the community and students. I believe that wider adoption and support of ‘Safety is Us’ will lead to safer communities and a more informed public.”
The company collaborates with Panchayats and schools to organize joint activities that educate students and community members on safe conduct regarding vehicles and driving, fire safety, and emergency services. Safety collaterals are distributed to ensure information reaches a wide audience and raises safety consciousness.
Within the organisation too, regular safety trainings and briefings are conducted to ensure that all workmen, business partners, and employees are thoroughly informed and sensitized about the safety measures. The safety theme of the month is followed and celebrated through a specifically designed set of activities, aimed at building salience towards safety and security. Special initiatives recognize and reward exemplary workmen & business partners on safety. Leadership team actively interacts with them to build and nurture a culture of safety.
Mr Navin Jaju, CEO of Sesa Goa, Vedanta Limited, emphasized the significance of safety, stating, “At Vedanta Safety continues to be non-negotiable as we set our sight on ambitious business targets and growth. Through ‘Safety is Us,’ we aim to enhance safety ownership and consciousness across Sesa Goa, reaching new ESG excellence. We’ve implemented engineering controls, drone surveillance, 360-degree machine guarding, additional Slope Stability Radar and AI cameras (T-Pulse system) for safe operations and monitoring and V-Unified (Enablon software) for HSE data reporting and analysis. I am confident these measures, combined with our safety awareness and commitment to ‘Safety is Us,’ will make our workplace inviolable to accidents and a great place to work!”
Traffic police cell in various states have also been requested to assist the company in spreading awareness about road safety & defensive driving. Such sessions have been conducted across all locations of Sesa Goa.
