FATORDA: Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai has written to the Chief Secretary opposing the state government’s move to start a private medical college at South Goa District Hospital.
“The facilities at South Goa District Hospital and Sub District Hospital, Ponda are not adequate; I oppose any move by Government to start a private medical college at South Goa District Hospital,” said Vijai.SGDH referred 3.312 patients to GMC last year. “When patients from Sanguem or Canacona are shifted to GMC in Bambolim, it is a logistical problem for their families,” Sardesai said.
He said that the district hospital does not have an orthopaedist, and a neurologist or cardiologist has not been appointed either.
“You had announced the plan to set up a cardiac centre before the election. Considering the state of the new hospital. People of South Goa feel the old Hospicio hospital was better.” said Sardesai.
Vijai said that the district hospital also lacks a 24X7 pharmacy, a radiology facility is available but only for limited hours, and most consultants are available only during the first half of the day, said Sardesai.
The Fatorda MLA also pointed out that several posts have not been filled, and some appointments have been made on a contractual basis.
“Ponda needs a sub-district hospital which is on par with a district hospital because it caters to areas from Usgao, Dharbandora, Savordem etc. Both the hospitals need to be monitored by a task force to ensure that eventually the SGDH and the SDH, Ponda become full-fledged hospitals that provide all facilities to the state’s citizens.,’ he added.
Vijai said that he was hopeful that, as the state’s Chief Secretary, you will see that these issues are addressed at the earliest to relieve Goemkars. I, along with my party would follow up on the matter on a priority basis.
