SALCETE: The Office of Women and Child Development (WCD), Block Salcete, organised a one-day capacity-building workshop for diverse stakeholders under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative at the Mathany Saldanha Administrative Complex in Margao on Thursday.
The workshop was inaugurated by Director of Women and Child Development Jyoti Desai in the presence of Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Gauri Parob, Deputy Chief of the District Legal Services Authority (South Goa) Adv. Harshita Dessai, and Medical Officer of Urban Health Centre, Margao, Dr. Baptist Mascarenhas.
Organised in line with the Ministry of Women and Child Development guidelines, the workshop aimed to strengthen awareness and enhance the capacity of stakeholders for the effective implementation of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme.
Addressing the gathering, Director Jyoti Desai said the BBBP campaign, launched in 2015, has contributed significantly to the welfare and empowerment of the girl child while improving the child sex ratio in Goa. She noted that although considerable progress has been made, sustained efforts and active community participation remain essential to achieve the campaign’s long-term objectives.
CDPO Gauri Parob highlighted the importance of the initiative and outlined the awareness and outreach activities undertaken by the WCD Office in Salcete. She urged all stakeholders to continue supporting efforts aimed at ensuring the protection, education and empowerment of girls.
Interactive sessions during the workshop covered legal awareness, health and nutrition, child protection, cybercrime against children, and coordinated action for effective implementation of the BBBP programme. The sessions were conducted by Dr. Baptist Mascarenhas, Nutrition Officer Melkiza Furtado, Adv. Harshita Dessai, Adv. Prashila Borkar, Adv. Shruti Kerkar and Police Inspector Vidyanand Pawar.
Officials from various government departments, representatives of panchayats and municipalities, and members of other organisations participated in the programme.
