New Delhi: The father of Ketan Agarwal, the 26 year old businessman who died after falling into a gorge at Lohagad Fort near Pune, has said the family would have cancelled the wedding if his fiancée had expressed reluctance to marry or informed them about her alleged relationship with another man.
Ketan and Siya Goyal, both from business families in Maharashtra, had got engaged in February and were preparing for their wedding scheduled for November. On June 18, Ketan died during a trek to the fort with Siya, with the incident initially being treated as an accidental fall.
However, subsequent investigations led police to suspect foul play. Authorities allege that Siya and Chetan Chaudhary, who were allegedly in a relationship, were involved in Ketan’s death.
Ketan’s father said the family had no knowledge of any such relationship and described Siya’s interactions with the family as cordial. He recalled that his son had occasionally mentioned that her phone would remain busy for long periods, but was told she was speaking with friends.
He added that the family had never pressured anyone into the marriage and would have readily called off the engagement if concerns had been raised earlier.
The businessman also questioned whether others may have been aware of the alleged relationship and urged investigators to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy, if any existed.
Suspicion reportedly grew after Ketan’s sister questioned Siya following the incident and found inconsistencies in her account of what had happened at the fort.
Police are also investigating whether there had been earlier attempts to harm Ketan before the fatal incident. Investigators claim CCTV footage and other evidence have played an important role in the ongoing probe.
The family has demanded the strictest possible action against those found guilty as the investigation continues.
