PORVORIM: In a shocking incident, the Porvorim Police has arrested two from Calangute for intimidating a judge and threatening a staff member of court over a pending civil case matter.
Both the accused Saito Lobo and Xavier Lobo are booked for threatening the judge and the staff in the case.
According to police, the accused followed the car in which the judge was travelling, untill the judge decided to take his car to police station.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening and a related complaint was lodged by Reina Fernandes, civil judge, senior division ‘B’ court Mapusa, police said. They said the accused threatened the court staff and thereafter started following the judge’s vehicle from Mapusa till Porvorim.
However, on reaching Porvorim, the judge’s vehicle was diverted towards the Porvorim police station following which the accused fled from the scene.
Subsequently, based on details of their vehicle, the Porvorim police tracked down the accused within a few hours under the supervision of police inspector Anant Gaonkar and both were placed under arrest.
Earlier, Criminal lawyer, Advocate Mujahid Shaikh had been arrested for allegedly threatening a Judge at knifepoint and demanding Rs 40 lakh.
The incident occurred on March 6 when the complainant was en route to his residence in Margao after concluding the day’s proceedings in a Valpoi court.
“The accused intercepted the official car in which the Judge was traveling to his residence, and flashed a knife threatening him. Shaikh demanded Rs 40 lakh from the Judge saying he had spoilt his career. If he didn’t pay the amount, the accused threatened to spoil his name,” the officer said quoting the complaint.
The accused was just recently, that is, on February 28 granted conditional bail by the Panaji Additional Sessions Court, 26 days after his arrest in the case wherein he is accused of decamping with the muddemal properties from the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) building at Altinho on the night of January 31.
