New Delhi:
In a significant move to strengthen global partnerships and address key international issues, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun a diplomatic tour to France and the United States. This visit, which commenced on February 10, 2025, is set to shape the future of international cooperation in artificial intelligence, technology, and strategic partnerships.
Modi’s trip underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in shaping a better future for the world. The visit includes a pivotal stop in France, where he will co-chair the AI Action Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron, and subsequent meetings with US President Donald Trump in Washington.
PM Modi’s first destination is France, where he will be in attendance from February 10 to 12. A key highlight of his visit is the AI Action Summit, a global gathering that brings together nearly 100 countries and over 1,000 stakeholders to discuss AI governance, innovation, and safety. Modi and Macron will co-chair this summit, emphasizing the need for safe, humane, and responsible applications of AI technologies.
Upon his arrival in Paris, Modi will attend a dinner hosted by President Macron at the Élysée Palace, an event that will also be attended by several tech CEOs. The bilateral segment of the visit will focus on reviewing the progress of the India-France strategic partnership, particularly the 2047 Horizon Roadmap. This roadmap is a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
In addition to the AI summit, Modi and Macron will travel to Marseille, where they will inaugurate the new Indian Consulate General. The leaders will also pay tribute to Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War I at the Mazargues War Cemetery. A visit to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project in Cadarache is also on the agenda, highlighting India’s involvement in this global high-science initiative.
Following his engagements in France, PM Modi will travel to the United States on February 12 for a two-day working visit. This will be his first meeting with President Trump since the latter’s inauguration for his second term. The visit aims to build upon the successes of the India-US collaboration during Trump’s first term and to deepen the partnership in areas such as technology, trade, defense, and energy.
Modi’s bilateral meeting with Trump will cover a range of topics, including trade, investment, defense cooperation, counterterrorism, and Indo-Pacific security. The discussions will also touch upon regional and international issues, reflecting the mutual benefit and strategic importance of the India-US relationship.
This diplomatic tour by PM Modi is a testament to the growing importance of international cooperation in the face of global challenges, and it sets the stage for enhanced partnerships between India, France, and the United States.
