Around 25000 people are expected to attend the meeting at Ponda, which will officially kick off BJP’s campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
It is the right time for the people of Goa to demand answers on his Mhadei statement.
Goa and Karnataka have been embroiled in a dispute over the sharing of Mahdei river water for several decades now, with the former often accusing the southern state of unilaterally proceeding with construction work ignoring rules and pacts.
However, here the BJP at the Centre has betrayed the Goans more than once.
Not only have they approved the Detailed Project Report of Karnataka, but in the Union Budget Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s announcement to a grant of Rs 5,300 crore for the ‘Upper Bhadra’ irrigation project in Karnataka. This was a double betrayal by the double engine.

Recently, the Union Minister and the BJP’s Chanakya made a statement during his visit to Belgavi in neighbouring Karnataka that shocked the entire Goa.
During a rally in Belagavi, Shah claimed Goa CM had consented to divert Mhadei water to Karnataka.
At a public rally in Karnataka’s Belagavi in January 2023, Shah had said, “I want to tell you [people] that BJP, by resolving the long-standing dispute between both states [Goa and Karnataka], has given Mhadei water to Karnataka and, thereby, ensured farmers in several districts here are benefited.”
His statement put the saffron party in Goa on the back foot here, with opposition parties gunning for Chief Minister’s head.
While the ruling leaders, including CM himself, did make an effort to clarify but to no avail. Goans did not buy their contention.
Pushed into a corner, when confronted with the statement made by Shah, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said: “We have not given consent of Mhadei (Mahadayi is also referred to as Mhadei in Goa) diversion and will never give it”.
However, now, Shah is scheduled to address a rally in Farmagudi in Goa on April 16. This is the best time for him to clarify his statement made in Belagavi.
Around 25000 people are expected to attend the meeting at Ponda, which will officially kick off BJP’s campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP boasts of boosting infrastructure in Goa but at what cost? Mhadei – our lifeline, on which lakhs of people depend for drinking water needs.
Really we fail to understand in what way will Amit Shah seek votes from Goans when he deprived them of their mother?
It is like killing one’s mother and then the next day coming to ask for a favour from the same mother’s children. Isn’t it?
Of Course, for BJP, Karnataka is politically more important than Goa as it has more LS seats than Goa’s just three (1 RS).
So in a bid to give his party an upper hand in the forthcoming assembly polls, Shah decided to betray Goans and give Mhadei to Karnataka…
However, knowing very well they were unlikely to win Karnataka now, Shaha has the audacity to demand votes from Goans for the 2024 parliamentary polls.
For those 25,000 people who would attend the rally at Ponda, we have no issues with which party you support or which party you vote for, but at least dare to ask Amit Shah, “Why he Killed Your Mother?”.
Finally, Mhadei is our mother, and we need to protect our mother from predators. It’s not an issue of politics, but the question of survival of our lifeline…
