PONDA: With the prediction of fuel price hikes due to the Russia-Ukraine war, Goa has witnessed long queues for filling up tanks ahead of Counting Day.
Economic experts have opined that the fuel prices will be hiked post counting for the elections in five states.
Since Monday evening, there have been long queues and fear of fuel prices to hike in the next few days long-Long queues continued for the second day to fill the fuel tank. To add to problems some petrol pump remained closed for or another reason and thus panic gripped that there would also be a shortage of fuel following a mad rush for fuel at Ponda Bus Stand Petrol pump.
Major traffic congestion was witnessed in Ponda after long queues of cars and bikes were witnessed at Ponda Petrol Pump. The queues caused traffic congestion at Ponda Bus Stand. The long queues reached to the main road leading to traffic congestion.
There was fear among vehicle owners after a rumour that there may be a price hike from today midnight due to Russia –the Ukraine war.
Out of three, the two petrol pumps operating, including one at the outskirt of City, were seen closed today evening.
One petrol pump displayed it was closed for electrical work. However, as two petrol pumps were closed in the evening, it created panic among vehicle owners that they may face a fuel shortage.
Later one petrol pump which was closed for day opened its operations by evening, and soon it also witnessed long queues.
