CANACONA: A woman lost her life after she was allegedly knocked down by a scooter being ridden by an underage child at Ordhofond, Bhatpal, Canacona, on Sunday night.
According to Canacona Police, the case was registered on a state complaint filed by HC Ganu Pagi. Police said that at around 8:28 pm on July 12, 2026, the owner of a TVS Jupiter scooter, identified as Kanta Naik, a resident of Ghodkamolem, Poinguinim, allegedly permitted an underage child to ride the two-wheeler.
The underage rider, accompanied by another underage pillion rider, was proceeding from Bhatpal towards Sadolxem when the scooter was allegedly ridden in a rash and negligent manner, endangering human life.
After crossing the Ordhofond Bridge at Bhatpal, the scooter allegedly struck pedestrian Chandrakala Naik, a resident of Ordhofond, Bhatpal.
The impact left the rider, pillion rider, and the pedestrian injured. Chandrakala Naik sustained grievous injuries and later succumbed to them while undergoing treatment at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Canacona.
Police have booked the scooter owner for allegedly allowing an underage child to ride the vehicle. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Ajit Velip of Canacona Police Station.
