NUVEM: A woman from Nuvem has allegedly been cheated of ₹4.47 lakh after falling victim to a fake part-time job scam that originated through a Facebook advertisement.
According to a complaint lodged by Viola Eva Fernandes, a resident of Gorvoti, Nuvem, Salcete, she came across a Facebook advertisement on April 14, 2026, offering a part-time job opportunity.
Believing the offer to be genuine, she was assigned various digital tasks, including reviewing and rating items on an online application.
To gain her confidence, the unknown accused initially transferred ₹5,000 to her bank account after she completed the assigned tasks.
The accused then allegedly persuaded her to transfer increasingly larger amounts of money under various pretexts.
Realising that she had become the target of a fraudulent scheme, the complainant stopped making further payments. However, by then, she had allegedly lost ₹4,47,500.
Maina-Curtorim Police have registered a case against the unknown accused for cheating. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Ashutosh Naik.
