SIOLIM: A 28-year-old woman sustained grievous injuries after a car allegedly collided with her scooter at a four-road junction near Jimmy’s Super Market at Portawado, Marna, Siolim, on June 4.
According to Anjuna Police, an offence was registered on June 7 based on a complaint filed by HC Rupesh P. Shetgaonkar. Police stated that accused Yashmita Shrikant Naik, a resident of Arpora and owner of a Hyundai i10 car bearing registration number GA-03-Y-2917, allegedly rented out her private vehicle on a self-drive basis to accused Vikram Shankar Patel (43), originally from Delhi and currently residing at Oxel, Siolim.
Investigations revealed that Patel was allegedly driving the vehicle without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate and in a rash and negligent manner. While attempting to take a right turn at the four-road junction near Jimmy’s Super Market, the car allegedly struck a TVS Jupiter scooter bearing registration number GA-03-AG-6556 on its left rear side.
The scooter was being ridden by Sushmita Benker alias Nagvekar (28), a resident of Xelpem, Duler, Mapusa. She suffered grievous injuries in the accident.
Anjuna Police have registered a case against both the vehicle owner and the driver. Further investigation is being carried out by HC Rupesh P. Shetgaonkar.
