VASCO: Residents of Assoi-Dongri questioned the Junior Engineer PWD Vasco over the irregular water supply to their areas for the last eight months. Locals pointed out the “red-tapism” in the PWD department to get permission for road cutting to put up a water pipeline.
Angry residents of Assoi-Dongri confronted the PWD engineer in the water supply section on Wednesday over the poor water supply in their area for the last eight months.
A resident of the Assoi-Dongri area told the media that they have been facing acute water shortage problems for many months and are left high and dry only with hollow assurances.
He further pointed out that there was a need to put a water supply pipeline, and for that road, cutting needed to be done. But to do road cutting, permission from the department was required, which is yet to be obtained by the concerned authorities. Our local panch member is also doing the follow-up about this work, but nothing is being done on the ground,” he added.
Another local claimed that the residents and the panch member are shelling out money from their pockets to do digging work and opening the water pipeline to find out the fault. PWD engineers just come and do an inspection, but they are yet to identify the problem of why we are not getting water.
One more resident of Assoi-Dongri said that water comes by 10 am when all are out for work; how we are supposed to store the water? Are we supposed to wait for water by leaving all other works pending? Aren’t we paying our water bills? He questioned.
An old lady who had come with the group also said that her elder daughter wakes up till 2 am at midnight to fill water from the borewell. Why should we suffer because of water shortage? We need a permanent solution to this,” she said.
Earlier, a group of residents, including women and men from the Assoi-Dongri area, met JE PWD and questioned the water shortage in their area.
The residents have demanded a permanent solution to this problem.
