LADAKH: Yatindra Maralkar – a former Goa Civil Services officer who was promoted to IAS a couple of years ago is making Goans proud at thousands of feet above sea level.
Maralkar is currently working in Ladakh Administrative Service after being promoted to IAS from Goa Civil Service and holding the prestigious post of Chief Electoral Officer of Ladakh for Lok Sabha elections, has made a good impact on the people of Ladakh with his innovative work.
The territory is recognized as one of the main tourist attractions of the country due to its snowy terrain and cold climate.
This Union territory, which has the exact opposite climate and climate of Goa, got the status of Union Territory on 31 October 2019. Earlier this province was counted as a constituency of Jammu and Kashmir.
This year, for the first time, Ladakh has an independent constituency after becoming a Union Territory. As the Chief Electoral Officer, Maralkar wants to create a record of 100 per cent voting.
Maralkar has served for many years in the Goa administration in the Personnel Department. He has also made a great contribution by publishing a book of collections of various orders, circulars, and notifications related to the personnel department. He is known in the administration as a calm, good-natured and clean officer.
He was transferred to Ladakh Union Territory wherein the administrative officers had to put a lot of effort into organizing the entire government system and Yatindra Maralkar had an important role in it.

In the last two elections in 2014 and 2019, BJP MPs were elected when it was part of Jammu and Kashmir.
The total number of voters in the Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency is 1,87,571 and 544 polling stations have been set up.
Currently, Maralkar is also managing a village in Vashi in the Leh area, which has only one family and 5 voters.
By setting up a special polling station for this one family, the Election Commission has shown the true power of democracy.
“Washi we have to have the lowest voters i.e total of 5 voters 296 Anley Pho polling station is the highest polling station in Ladakh at an altitude of 15,500 ft…,” said Maralkar, speaking to Goemakrponn on the phone.
There are two districts in Ladakh. Muslim-majority Kargil and Buddhist-majority Leh. Out of the total polling stations, 33 have been set up in urban areas and 544 in rural areas. It includes 91,703 male and 90,868 female voters. Ladakh will go to polls in the fourth phase on May 20, says Maralkar.
