MARGAO: Youth Congress office-bearers visited the South Goa District Hospital amid a reported rise in dengue cases to take stock of the situation and assess the facilities available for patients.
After inspecting the hospital, Youth Congress leaders addressed the media at the hospital entrance and alleged that some dengue patients were being treated on stretchers and even on the floor due to a shortage of beds.
The leaders urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Health Minister to take immediate note of the situation and intervene to improve arrangements for patients.
Hospital Superintendent Rajendra Borkar said that all available beds at the hospital are currently occupied. However, he clarified that patients continue to be treated at the hospital and are not being sent back home because of the shortage of beds.
Borkar also appealed to political parties not to merely criticise the hospital and instead extend their support and cooperate with the authorities in improving healthcare facilities and arrangements for patients.
The visit comes amid a reported increase in dengue cases in South Goa, placing additional pressure on hospitals and healthcare infrastructure in the district.
