PANAJI: Goa Transport and Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho has outlined a series of measures aimed at streamlining transport operations and improving the process of panchayat-level mapping and surveys across the state.
On the rent-a-cab sector, Godinho said the government has completed an audit of operations and is preparing to introduce new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The proposed framework is aimed at bringing greater structure and transparency to the sector while addressing unauthorised operations.
Godinho said the new guidelines are intended to ensure that rent-a-cab operations function within a clearly defined regulatory framework, with the government seeking to streamline the sector and improve compliance.
Meanwhile, in his capacity as Panchayat Minister, Godinho said the government is examining the process for conducting surveys and mapping of panchayat areas.
He said specialised agencies may be appointed for the exercise, taking into account differences in terrain and geographical conditions across various regions of Goa. While some panchayats have reportedly attempted to conduct surveys independently, the government is currently collecting information from the local bodies before taking a final decision.
Godinho indicated that the government wants to assess the practical requirements before finalising the survey framework.
He also stressed that policy decisions are not taken by an individual minister alone, but are part of a collective government process under the leadership of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
