PANAJI: Goa Revenue, Labour and Waste Management Minister and Panaji MLA Atanasio “Babush” Monserrate has reiterated that he will support the candidate chosen by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the Santa Cruz constituency.
Speaking to the media on the possibility of candidates contesting from Santa Cruz, Monserrate said that in a democracy, every individual has the right to contest elections and that nobody can be prevented from entering the electoral fray.
However, he made it clear that his political support would remain with the BJP’s official candidate.
“We are part of the BJP, so we will support whichever candidate the BJP chooses,” Monserrate said, stressing that the party’s decision would be respected.
His remarks come amid growing political discussions over the Santa Cruz constituency ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections. The constituency is expected to attract attention as political parties begin assessing potential candidates and strengthening their organisational preparations.
Monserrate maintained that the BJP’s candidate, whoever is selected by the party, would have his support and that of the party unit.
