COLVALE: Colvale Police have registered a case against a tempo driver for allegedly parking his vehicle in a dangerous manner, leading to a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a 20-year-old scooter rider at Colvale Industrial Estate.
According to a complaint lodged by ASI Anil Shrikant Pilgaonkar of Colvale Police Station, the accident occurred at around 11.40 pm on June 22 near Vijay Enterprises, Plot No. N-8, Colvale Industrial Estate.
Police said the accused, Shivaji Khemana Tejam, 37, a driver residing at Colvale and originally from Chandgad in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, had allegedly parked an Eicher tempo (GA-01-Z-0884) on the roadside in a prohibited area during rainy conditions without displaying adequate warning signals for approaching motorists.
As a result, a Fascino scooter (GA-03-BD-6953) ridden by Ravish Yadunand Tari, 20, of St Estevam, Tiswadi, collided with the rear right side of the parked vehicle while travelling towards Colvale IDC from Chicalim.
The impact left Ravish critically injured, and he later succumbed to his injuries. The pillion rider, Laxman Sriram Bhonsale of Nachinola, Aldona, sustained bodily injuries in the crash.
Colvale Police have booked the tempo driver for negligent parking causing death and injuries. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Dattaraj Rane.
