CANACONA: A youth from Gaondongrim was safely rescued after he slipped and fell into a ravine while returning from a remote hillock at Modder in Badsarem, where he had trekked alone to hoist the national flag ahead of Independence Day.
Rohit Kudalkar had ventured into the dense forest carrying the Tricolour and reached the highest point of the Badsarem area to hoist the flag. While returning, he reportedly lost his footing and fell into a deep ravine, leaving him unable to climb out.
Kudalkar managed to find mobile network and alerted the emergency services by calling 100. Canacona Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Forest Department personnel and local residents subsequently launched a joint rescue operation.
Locating him in the dense forest and steep terrain proved challenging, but the teams eventually traced his location and safely brought him out. He reportedly did not suffer any serious injuries.
Kudalkar thanked the police, Forest Department, Fire Brigade and local residents for their prompt response and assistance.
The incident highlights the risks of venturing alone into remote forest areas. Trekkers are advised to inform local authorities or the Forest Department before entering such areas, carry adequate safety equipment and avoid trekking alone.
