Panaji: In a heartening display of medical prowess and swift action, a preterm newborn born at just 26 weeks at Dr. Bhuvaji Hospital in Curchorem, Goa, was stabilized and safely transported to a specialized care unit, thanks to the diligent efforts of GVK EMRI’s emergency medical team.
The baby, who was in respiratory distress with an oxygen saturation level of 77%, was expertly cared for by EMT Faye and pilot Milind.
The emergency medical team sprang into action, providing oxygen support via a bag-valve mask and placing the baby in an incubator to prevent hypothermia. Throughout the transport to Hospicio NICU, the team ensured continuous monitoring, managing to improve the baby’s oxygen saturation to 98%.
Upon arrival, NICU doctors further stabilized the newborn and later intubated the baby for transfer to a tertiary care center.
Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane took to social media to commend the coordinated efforts of the GVK EMRI emergency medical team and the hospital staff. “The timely and effective care provided by our GVK EMRI emergency medical team and hospital staff played a crucial role in this successful outcome,” Rane said. “We wish the baby and the mother strength and a smooth recovery.”
