PANAJI: A 12 member Special Investigation Team(SIT) under Deputy Inspector General(DIG) Aslam Khan has been constituted by Goa police to investigate into honey trap cases unearthed in August this years.
Two women were arrested on charges of extortion in Goa following accusations that they honey-trapped men and held out threats of filing rape charges against them to extort money from them. Cases have been filed against them at Calangute and Candolim police stations.
Goa police investigation had revealed that three rape cases were filed by the two women in Goa and another two in Gujarat.
The modus operandi was that the woman used to first open dating app and then share numbers with the persons after developing friendship with them mostly businessman. They then use to threaten them by filing fake case against him for the purpose of extortion.
The police investigation had so far revealed that as many as three fake rape cases were filed by the two women in the State and another two at Gujarat.
However, the first fake rape complaint was filed at the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Panjim last year wherein the victim had told the police that it was a fake complaint and had told the police to check the credential of the woman complainant.
