PANAJI: According to Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Prabodh Shirwaikar, 15,625 traffic infraction charges have been reported in Goa in the first 20 days of the new year. In Panaji alone, 2,300 of these cases were reported.
According to SP Shirwaikar, the infractions include 347 instances of driving while intoxicated, 951 incidents of speeding, 2,675 cases of riding without a helmet, and 372 occurrences of using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle.
In addition, there have been 535 incidents of driving without a seatbelt, 250 cases of carrying too many passengers in the backseat, and 960 cases of pay-parking infractions. A total of 2,893 cases were booked for dangerous parking and 554 for unauthorised parking.
27 instances of red-light jumping, 302 cases of tinted glass, 269 cases of inappropriate overtaking, 245 cases of driving without number plates, and 742 occurrences of faulty number plates are among the other infractions that were noted.
SP Shirwaikar told reporters that Panaji’s current Smart City projects have drastically cut down on parking spots, which has resulted in an increase of double parking. He advised people to use the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited’s (KTCL) electric bus services and to refrain from double parking.
