PANAJI: Goa Traffic Police has fined 4.38 lakh people for traffic rule violations and have collected Rs 25.65 crore revenue in terms of fines.
“Nearly 4.38 lakh traffic rule violators were fined to the tune of Rs 25.65 crore by Goa Traffic police in last 10 months, from Jan 2023 to Oct 2023,” the data states
The data has also revealed that Police also fined 12 minors to the tune of Rs 86,500 for driving without licence and other requisite documents.
Goa also witnessed one death every 24 hours in road accidents in the last 13 days.
In all 12 persons lost their lives in road accidents in Goa from Saturday, Nov 11 to Thursday Nov 23.
Seven of the 12 deceased are in the 50 & below age group. The deceased are in the age group of 19 to 77 years of age.
8,700 recommendations have been sent to the Department of Transport for suspending driving licences of those individuals who indulged in over speeding.
“The Department of Transportation has received up to 8,700 recommendations to suspend the driving privileges of those who engaged in overspeeding, and 2,500 recommendations to suspend the driving privileges of those who were frequently observed using a cell phone while operating a vehicle,” SP said.
The Department of Transport has been advised by the Goa Traffic Police Cell to revoke the driver’s licenses of 15,000 people who have committed traffic infractions.
This year, from January to September, 15,000 people will have their driving licenses revoked for a variety of traffic infractions.
“We have submitted a request to the Department of Transportation to do this. 1,100 of them involve driving while intoxicated,” he added.
