PANAJI: A growing number of couples are turning to the state-run fertility programme in Goa, with 446 patients registering for infertility treatment and 131 already undergoing IVF at the Goa Medical College and Hospital.
The figures underline the rising demand and impact of the Centre for Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) at GMC, which remains the only government facility in the country offering IVF treatment free of cost.
Officials said the 131 patients have undergone a total of 167 IVF cycles, resulting in 25 positive cases so far, including 14 successful deliveries and two ongoing pregnancies. In addition, 260 patients have availed IUI treatment across 668 cycles, leading to 31 positive cases, with six deliveries and 18 ongoing pregnancies.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to people-centric healthcare. “From 446 registrations to 131 IVF treatments, each step represents a family’s journey towards hope. Free access to advanced fertility care ensures that financial constraints do not stand in the way of parenthood,” he said.
He added that the programme goes beyond numbers, delivering real outcomes for families. “We are building a healthcare system rooted in compassion, dignity and trust—where every success story matters,” Rane said.
The state government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening inclusive and innovative healthcare services, with the GMC fertility centre emerging as a key pillar in that vision.
