PANAJI: After days of warm and sticky weather, parts of Goa received light rainfall, bringing a welcome change in conditions and offering temporary relief to residents across the State.
Rain was reported from pockets of Sattari, Canacona and Tiswadi, while Panaji and nearby areas also witnessed brief showers during the day. The rainfall helped lower temperatures and reduced humidity levels that had been troubling residents amid a sluggish monsoon season.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a rise in rainfall activity over the next few days and issued a yellow alert for Goa on Monday and Tuesday. Heavy showers are likely at isolated places during this period, according to the weather department.
Officials said weather conditions are becoming increasingly favourable for stronger monsoon activity, with rainfall expected to become more widespread over the next three to four days.
As a precautionary measure, fishermen have been advised to stay away from the sea due to the possibility of rough conditions along the coast.
The expected rainfall comes at a crucial time as authorities continue to keep a close watch on water availability in the State. Reservoir storage levels remain a concern following below-normal rainfall, and officials have previously indicated that existing water reserves may be sufficient for only a limited period if the dry spell continues.
Farmers and residents alike are hopeful that the forecasted showers will help improve water levels, support agricultural activities and bring the monsoon season back on track.
