New Delhi: India will host a crucial gathering of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security in New Delhi from Monday, with discussions expected to focus on terrorism, regional conflicts, emerging security threats and global geopolitical challenges.
The two-day meeting will be chaired by Ajit Doval as part of India’s BRICS chairship in 2026. Senior security officials from member countries are expected to participate, including Wang Yi and Sergei Shoigu, along with representatives from other member nations.
The conclave is being viewed as an important preparatory event ahead of the BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in India in September. Delegates will deliberate on the theme of non-traditional security challenges and examine the rapidly evolving nature of threats facing countries around the world.
Among the major issues likely to dominate discussions are the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the Russia-Ukraine war, cyber security concerns and the impact of emerging technologies on national security. India is also expected to highlight concerns related to terrorism, particularly cross-border terrorism and security challenges affecting Jammu and Kashmir.
Regional developments, including tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, are also expected to feature in the deliberations as member nations assess the broader security environment.
The meeting will review recommendations from BRICS working groups dealing with counter-terrorism and the security of information and communication technologies. Officials are expected to explore ways to strengthen cooperation in tackling both conventional and non-conventional threats.
India’s BRICS chairship this year is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The expanded BRICS grouping now includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
With geopolitical tensions continuing to reshape global security dynamics, the New Delhi meeting is expected to lay the groundwork for discussions at the leaders’ summit later this year and help identify areas of greater cooperation among member nations.
