PANAJI: Five passengers who travelled into Goa from United Kingdom (UK) and Sharjah respectively have tested positive for COVID-19 infection. Their samples have been sent to NIV Pune for genome sequencing.
“Air India G9492 from UK – 181 passengers tested 4 tested positive for Covid-19 Air Arabia AI 146 from Sharjah – 49 passengers tested 1 tested positive for Covid-19 Their samples have been sent for genome sequencing,” said Health Minister Vishwajit Rane
He further said that testing has now become to full swing at Goa International Airport.
An eight-year-old boy, who arrived in Goa from the United Kingdom, had been found infected with Omicron yesterday, making it the first case of the new coronavirus variant in the coastal state.
The Centre on Monday reviewed the public health response measures and Covid-19 vaccination status in the five poll-bound states.
The review meeting was chaired by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan in which the Centre advised the states to speed up vaccination of all the eligible population across districts.
This apart, Bhushan urged the states to exponentially speed up Covid tests and strictly enforce Covid-appropriate behaviour.
