PANAJI: Home Guards are the unsung heroes, the guardians of peace, who work diligently behind the scenes to ensure the smooth functioning of society, especially during the times of crisis stated Director General of Police Alok Kumar IPS and further mentioned that the Home Guard is not just a title; it is a symbol of commitment, bravery, and selflessness who assist the police during emergencies to provide support in times of natural calamities due to which the role of Home Guards is indispensable.
The DGP Goa Alok Kumar was speaking at a function organized to commemorate 62nd Raising Day of Home Guards and Civil Defence volunteers at Police Headquarter Panaji today.
Expressing his happiness and privilege the DGP Goa said that it is an honour and a privilege to be with home guards on this significant occasion – the Home Guards Raising Day. Today, he said we commemorate the tireless dedication, unwavering service, and the remarkable contributions of our Home Guards for the safety and security of our society.
The DGP Goa speaking further said that the Goa Home Guards is founded with the objective of augmenting the efforts of law enforcement agencies, which in the course of the time Home Guard force has grown and evolved into a highly effective and trained unit.
The commitment and courage demonstrated by our Home Guards are nothing short of exceptional as they always dedicated themselves to maintain public order, responding to disasters, assisting in civil defence activities, and even contributing to community building initiatives, he added.
Alok Kumar highlighting the importance of Raising Day said it is a day to acknowledge their tireless spirit sacrifices and express our heartfelt gratitude for their contributions despite having other primary to protect and serve society or providing a helping hand during festivals or public events, in ensuring law and order during public unrest or assisting in rescue operations during floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters and therefore their contribution is indispensable and are worthy of rewards he reiterated.
Dy. Controller, Civil Defence, Smt Sharmila Zuzarte while addressing gave an overview of home guards and civil defence highlighted the role of home guards and civil defence volunteers. Around 300 civil defence volunteers were deployed for election duty in Maharashtra, she informed.
Earlier the DGP Shri Alok Kumar received the guard of honour and salami shastr by civil defence troop.
