BICHOLIM: A large mob gathered (especially Dhree Devi Lairai dhonds) at Bicholim Police Station demanding that Shreya Dhargalkar who is in police custody be brought and placed at the Bicholim Police lockup.
As per police she has been lodged at the Colvale jail and will be produced before the court for Judicial Custody. The mob had earlier also blocked the road over their demand.
Shreya was arrested by police yet again today over comments on Devi Lairai’s devotees. Earlier in the day, Shreya was granted conditional bail by JMFC Quepem in the Fatorpa temple committee accusation and religious sentiment hurting case.
Both Shreya and Namita Fatarpekar who were arrested by police in the Fatorpa matter were released on personal bond of Rs 25,000.
They have also been asked to report to the Cuncolim police station for a month and have been banned from entering Fatorpa.
The demonstrators were told by Bicholim DySP Sagar Ekoskar that Dhargalkar had already been taken into custody by the police from Cuncolim and that the accused had already been sought out for custody. The DySP emphasized that Dhargalkar was not taken to the Bicholim police station because of the state of law and order.
Despite the efforts of DySP Ekoskar and PI Rahul Naik to appease the demonstrators, hundreds of them continued to block the main Bicholim-Sanquelim road close to the police station, causing traffic disruptions.
Tension erupted as demonstrators insisted that Dhargalkar be present at the Bicholim police station and refused to leave the road.
Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye and North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal hurried to the scene and engaged in conversation with the demonstrators.
Dhargalkar has been remanded to judicial custody until June 4, according to SP Kaushal.
On the condition of a personal bond of Rs 25,000 each and one surety in the same amount, Shreya and Namita Fatarpekar were both released. They have also been ordered not to enter Fatorpa village, to stay out of the State without the court’s approval, and to report to the Cuncolim police station for a period of fifteen days.
After being taken to the hospital right away following her arrest, Shreya was detained in the Cuncolim lock-up until her release.
Prior to issuing the order, the Court heard arguments regarding the bail requests made by each of the accused.
