PANAJI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa Women’s Wing President Mamata Naik-Maben has strongly questioned the BJP government over the safety of children in Goa following two serious cases involving allegations of sexual assault against minor girls. She questioned how children could feel safe when individuals entrusted with protecting them are themselves accused of such serious crimes.
Referring to the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl by Crime Branch Police Inspector Vikas Deykar and the case involving a 32-year-old Bal Rath driver accused of sexually assaulting multiple schoolgirls, Naik-Maben questioned whether proper background checks and verification were conducted before appointing individuals to positions involving the safety of children.
She also raised serious concerns over the circumstances in which the minor girl was allegedly called to the police station late at night. Questioning the absence of a woman police officer, she asked why the girl was summoned at such an hour and why a woman officer was not present during the interaction.
Naik-Maben questioned Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, who also holds the Home portfolio, on the accountability of his government in ensuring the safety and protection of children in Goa. She demanded strict action against both accused, a thorough and impartial investigation, and fast-tracked court proceedings to ensure justice for the victims.
She stressed that merely registering FIRs and suspending the accused was not enough. The government must ensure that the investigations are conducted properly, victims receive justice, and everyone found responsible is held accountable.
Naik-Maben demanded that both cases be fast-tracked and that the government take concrete steps to restore public confidence in the safety of children across Goa.
