CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party is formally beginning its campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann scheduled to launch the party’s campaign in Ludhiana on Saturday. The move comes a day after the Punjab government approved an 8% increase in Dearness Allowance for state employees and pensioners.
Mann is set to release the party’s election campaign pamphlet in Ludhiana, marking the beginning of a wider political outreach ahead of the polls. The party has also announced a membership drive and a statewide door-to-door campaign starting September 20.
The DA increase will affect around eight lakh government employees and pensioners, making the announcement significant for a large section of the state’s workforce. The decision followed discussions between the government and employee and pensioner organisations after a prolonged dispute over pending DA and related demands.
AAP plans to deploy 2,68,553 booth committee members for the statewide household outreach. The workers will visit homes across Punjab and present the government’s work and schemes. Punjab has more than 25,000 polling booths, with the campaign being organised through local booth committees.
Mann is expected to personally participate in the door-to-door exercise in Dhuri, his Assembly constituency, from September 20. The party’s membership campaign will run alongside the outreach programme.
The campaign begins as other political parties also step up preparations for the 2027 contest. The BJP has launched its Drug-Free Punjab Yatra, placing the issue of drug abuse prominently in its early campaign activities.
AAP’s outreach is expected to focus on the Mann government’s record, including its initiatives involving employees, farmers, education, employment and other welfare measures. The party’s campaign will now move from organisational preparations to direct household-level mobilisation across Punjab.
