New Delhi: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has secured a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project, marking a significant milestone in the company’s international expansion and its entry into the South American market.
The contract has been awarded to The Adani Harbour International FZCO, a step-down subsidiary of APSEZ, through a consortium formed with Argentina-based Meridian Group. The consortium emerged successful following a global competitive bidding process conducted by Southern Energy SA (SESA).
The agreement is linked to the Southern Energy Floating LNG (FLNG) project, which is expected to become Argentina’s first operational LNG export facility. The project is backed by an estimated investment of $70 million and is projected to produce 2.45 million tonnes (MT) of LNG annually in its initial phase. This output is expected to translate into around 28 LNG cargo shipments each year.
Under the contract, the Adani-Meridian consortium will provide a comprehensive range of marine services, including tugboat operations for LNG carriers, offshore logistics support, supply operations and crew transfer services. The project will be supported by a fleet comprising four high-specification tugboats, an anchor handling tug supply vessel and a crew boat.
Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO of APSEZ, said the project highlights the company’s growing expertise in supporting large-scale energy infrastructure across international markets. He noted that APSEZ currently operates marine services in 12 countries, serving ports, LNG terminals, national oil companies, refineries and offshore facilities.
The development also underscores strengthening energy ties between India and Argentina. Argentina is emerging as a key LNG supplier, with agreements supporting exports of up to 10 million tonnes annually to India from 2027. The Southern Energy FLNG project is expected to play a crucial role in connecting Argentina’s growing LNG production with global energy markets.
