PANAJI: Advocate Vedaksh Raikar has strongly condemned crimes against women and demanded a swift, thorough and impartial investigation into the recent death of a GMC intern in Goa, stating that those responsible must be brought to justice without delay.
In a statement, Raikar said that a girl child is regarded in Indian culture as an embodiment of the divine, symbolising prosperity, wisdom and justice, but noted that this reverence stands in sharp contrast to the growing number of horrific crimes against women and girls across the country.
Expressing anguish over the tragedy, he said the death of the young medical intern is heartbreaking and highlighted the sacrifices made by parents who dedicate years of hard work and resources to help their children pursue professional education. He said one can only imagine the grief of the family in such circumstances.
Raikar also stressed that while governments and law enforcement agencies have a crucial responsibility to ensure justice, society as a whole must introspect and work towards building a culture of respect and dignity for women. He urged citizens to examine their own role in preventing violence rather than placing the entire blame on authorities.
Referring to nationally significant cases of violence against women, including the Nirbhaya, Unnao and R.G. Kar incidents, Raikar said such crimes have repeatedly shaken the conscience of the nation. He expressed confidence that the investigating agencies in Goa would conduct a fair and comprehensive probe into the GMC intern’s death and ensure that justice is delivered.
