Panaji: Goa suffered a 69 run defeat against Jammu & Kashmir in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy Elite Under-19 cricket tournament at the Tau Devi Lal Ground in Chandigarh on Saturday, despite a fighting unbeaten half century from Afridsab Rajkannawar and a valuable contribution from captain Aradhya Goyal.
Chasing a target of 295, Goa were bowled out for 225 in 45.2 overs. Rajkannawar led the resistance with an unbeaten 82 off 73 deliveries, striking three fours and three sixes. Goyal contributed 50 off 67 balls, including seven boundaries, but their efforts were not enough to take Goa across the finish line.
Vinit Kamat added 25 runs, while Chigurupati Venkata scored 23 as Goa attempted to keep pace with the required run rate. However, Jammu & Kashmir maintained pressure through regular wickets, with Ketan Singh delivering the decisive performance by claiming four wickets for 41 runs. Manitavya Singh picked up two wickets, while Irfan Ashraf, Sagar Sangotra and Shaurya Chouhan took one each.
Earlier, Jammu & Kashmir posted a competitive 294 for nine in their allotted 50 overs after producing several important contributions throughout the innings.
Arjun Sharma top scored with 56, while Shiva Thakur narrowly missed a half century with 49. Manitavya Sharma added 43, Ashutosh Mahajan scored 40 and Shaurya Chouhan contributed 38 to strengthen the team’s total.
Goa’s bowlers managed to take wickets at regular intervals but could not prevent Jammu & Kashmir from building a substantial score. Rajkannawar and Shamik Kamat claimed two wickets each, while Venkata, Mihir Kudalkar, Swapnesh Naik and Aditya Kota picked up one wicket apiece.
Despite Rajkannawar’s determined innings and Goyal’s half century, Goa were unable to sustain their chase against a disciplined bowling attack and eventually fell short by 69 runs.
