PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has expressed his willingness to take up a national-level assignment if the BJP leadership asks him to move to Delhi, saying he is prepared to serve wherever the party considers him necessary.
Sawant said he would accept the party’s decision without reluctance and was ready to take on any responsibility entrusted to him by the BJP leadership.
However, the Chief Minister made it clear that his immediate focus remains the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.
He said the party would decide who would lead it into the polls, while his own responsibility was to work towards ensuring the BJP’s victory.
Sawant also claimed that people were leaving the Congress and joining the BJP because they believed the Congress offered them limited political prospects.
He attributed the shift to ideological differences and the BJP’s development agenda, while expressing confidence in the party’s continued electoral prospects in Goa.
Addressing the removal of former Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude from the cabinet, Sawant said the decision was not prompted by Gaude’s allegations of corruption against the government.
He explained that he had committed to giving cabinet representation to an MLA belonging to the Scheduled Tribe community.
On tourism, Sawant said the state government was examining negative social media campaigns concerning Goa.
He suggested that some of these campaigns could be intended to encourage tourists to choose overseas destinations instead.
