MAPUSA: The hall on the top floor of the Mapusa Fish Market is being considered for housing administrative offices, following an inspection by Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, GSIDC Chairman and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, and GSIDC officials.
The inspection was conducted to assess the suitability of the existing premises for shifting administrative offices. The proposal follows the recent visit of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to Mapusa, during which the possibility of utilising the available space for administrative purposes was put forward and received a positive response.
D’Souza said the focus was now on taking the proposal forward at the earliest to improve public convenience and access to administrative services.
During the inspection, GSIDC officials assessed the existing structure and the work required to create the necessary facilities for the proposed offices. The initiative aims to make administrative services more accessible to residents while making effective use of the existing infrastructure.
GSIDC Chairman Michael Lobo said efforts were being made to take the proposal forward at the earliest.
“Following the recent visit of Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant ji to Mapusa, we are working towards taking this proposal forward at the earliest, ensuring better accessibility, convenience and improved public services for the people of Mapusa,” Lobo said.
He added that, as Chairman of GSIDC, he remained committed to supporting Mapusa’s development through improved infrastructure, including parking facilities, cleanliness, pavements, lifts and beautification works.
“Our focus remains on practical solutions, better infrastructure and development that benefits the people,” Lobo said.
The proposed relocation is subject to further assessment and the completion of the necessary infrastructure work. Coordination with GSIDC is also expected to support efforts to address other infrastructure requirements in Mapusa, with the aim of making the town more organised and accessible to the public.
Deputy Collector Anant Malik, Mamlatdar Krishna Gaonkar, Administrator Chandrakant Shetkar, Chief Officer Kaushik Desai, government officials and GSIDC staff were also present during the inspection.
The inspection marks a step towards exploring the use of the Mapusa Fish Market’s top-floor hall for administrative offices, with further coordination required to take the proposal forward.
