PANAJI: Goa Forward Party (GFP) MLA Vijai Sardesai has strongly criticised the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the exercise has raised serious concerns over the deletion of voters, particularly those belonging to minority communities.
“Country is at war with its own citizens over SIR,” Sardesai said, expressing opposition to the electoral roll revision exercise.
Sardesai also alleged that BJP leader K. Annamalai, who was in charge of the SIR exercise in Goa, used to ask BJP MLAs how many minority voters had been deleted from the electoral rolls. The allegation raises questions about the conduct and intent of the revision exercise.
Sardesai, along with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Amit Palekar and Valmiki Naik, joined protesters at Azad Maidan in Panaji opposing the SIR exercise. The demonstrators demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Police arrived at Azad Maidan as the protest continued, with personnel moving to detain demonstrators opposing the electoral roll revision.
