PANAJI: Actor Nana Patekar, 75, died due to an acute myocardial infarction following thrombosis of the left main coronary artery secondary to atherosclerotic occlusive coronary artery disease, according to the post-mortem report issued by a panel of doctors at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, on Thursday.
The panel, comprising Police Surgeon Dr Pannag S Kumar, Assistant Professor Dr Kedareshwar Narvekar and Lecturer Dr Peter Rodrigues, conducted the post-mortem examination and certified the cause of death as natural.
According to the police enquiry, Panaji Police Station received information from Manipal Hospital, Dona Paula, at around 5.30 am on October 8 that Patekar had been brought dead to the hospital. An unnatural death (UD) case, numbered 62/2026, was registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, by PSI Nitin Naik.
Following the registration of the case, police visited Manipal Hospital and referred the body to GMC, Bambolim, for further enquiry. An inquest panchnama was subsequently conducted in the presence of panch witnesses and Prasad Parkar, the deceased’s nephew, before the body was referred for post-mortem examination.
During the enquiry, police learnt that at around 2.30 am, Patekar had sent a WhatsApp message to family friend Amey Naik of Caranzalem, stating that he was not feeling well. When there was no response, Patekar reportedly called Naik and informed him about his condition. Naik saw the message at around 3.30 am and immediately rushed to Patekar’s flat at C-8, Sea Pearl, Ocean Park Phase-I, Dona Paula.
According to the enquiry, Patekar was dressed and seated on a sofa when he became unconscious in Naik’s presence. Naik then sent the watchman to Manipal Hospital to arrange a vehicle. The emergency vehicle arrived at the residence, and Patekar was taken to the hospital at around 4.30 am. After examination, the hospital’s medical officer declared him brought dead.
Police also recorded the statements of Prasad Parkar and Malhar Patekar, the deceased’s son. Both reportedly stated that they did not suspect any foul play in the death.
Further enquiry is in progress under the supervision of the Police Inspector, Panaji Police Station.
