New Delhi:
Jasprit Bumrah set the Optus Stadium ablaze with his bowling masterpiece against Australia in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which began on Friday. After India’s batting collapsed for 150, the stand-in Indian captain led the charge with the ball and ran through the Indian batting order, helping his team secure a 46-run in the first innings. The right-arm quick returned 5 for 30 in 18 overs, bagging the 11th fifer in Test cricket.
Bumrah’s fierce spell impressed the Australian media as the Indian skipper got a place on the front page of several Australian dailies. Reacting to Bumrah’s fame Down Under, former India head coach Ravi Shastri said the pacer will be the the next big thing in Indian cricket after Virat Kohli.
“If you look into the eyes of the Aussies and compete, then you will get respect. And mark my words, after Kohli it will be ‘Bumrah-Bumrah’ everywhere. He is a world-class fast bowler. The Australian crowd as well as the media gives respect to good competitors. Bumrah did it and now he was featured on the first page of the Australian dailies,” Shastri said on Hindi commentary.
