CANACONA: Akhil Goa Kshatriya Pagi Samaj (AGKPS) Canacona-based traditional fishermen organization has demanded that the fisheries department put a complete blanket ban on the use of Generator/DG sets in all Fishing trawlers.
The ban on DG Set/Gen-Sets on Fishing Trawlers should be imposed to effectively implement the ban and dissuade the use of LED fishing practices.
“As it is very clear that 60 to 150kva capacity DG sets are required to power the use of LED lights which was banned in 2016, the use of DG sets is required only to power LED bulbs of mostly 1600watts up to 5000watts which around 15 to 25 bulbs are used by fishing boat owners to attract fish up to from 5 km and due to the intense heat generated by the lights the juvenile fish along will all corals and marine vegetation gets destroyed’, informed Divakar Pagi.
AGKPS President Divakar Pagi in a press statement further stated that the Goa Shipyard Limited, Vasco has submitted a report dated 24th Jan 2024 which has inspected 16 random fishing boats across Goa in which they stated that the DG set need arises only to power duty galley equipment such as refrigerators, air-conditioners, hot plate, oven, washing machine etc. which none of the boats across Goa uses.
He also stated that if GEN sets are allowed then 2.30 lakhs crafts which are registered across India will be using GEN sets with LED lights.
