CANACONA: Hundreds of faithful from Agonda parish came together to commemorate the anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima with a solemn and vibrant village-wide procession on Sunday.
The beautifully decorated statue of Our Lady of Fatima was placed on a motorcade and taken through the village streets, as devotees walked over 10 kilometres reciting the Rosary and singing hymns with deep devotion.
The entire procession route was adorned with festive decorations, with each of the ten Somudais (Small Christian Community Groups) setting up creatively themed arches to welcome Mother Mary. Special prayer halts were made in each locality — invoking blessings for the needy, offering prayers for departed souls from the past year, and collecting petitions from parishioners.
Parish priest Fr. Patrick Luis, along with assistant Fr. Baltazar Fernandes, led the faithful, while Fr. Octavino Cunha, leading a prayer group from another motorcade, guided the congregation in prayers throughout the route.
The event also saw the participation of people from different faiths — many lighting candles or offering incense as the motorcade passed by, seeking the blessings of Mother Mary. Fr. Cunha conducted special prayers for non-Catholic residents, invoking good health and prosperity for all.
The procession concluded at Agonda Church, where Fr. Patrick Luis bestowed the final blessings of Our Lady of Fatima upon the faithful.
