PANAJI: In view of the festive season and new year celebrations, SP Traffic Akshat Kaushal today said that 800 traffic personnels will man the state to avoid traffic chaos.
Addressing the media, SP Kaushal said that 800 traffic personnel will be deployed across state in view of festive season.
“Extra force will be deployed in areas with excess traffic; We are also in touch with Sunburn for traffic management,” said SP Kaushal
Meanwhile, the task force set up by the State government to come up with solutions to Goa’s high rate of road accidents, has become fully operational, he said, adding that this task force met earlier this week to review these recommendations.
Goa experiences a heavy influx of tourists every year, with one estimate suggesting that footfalls tip Goa’s population in the fortnight around Christmas and New Year. Correspondingly the number of road accidents and fatalities also shoot up in the same period.
He further said that Vehicles from Porvorim proceeding towards Calangute, on reaching near St. Alex Church will be diverted towards St. Anthony Chapel St. Joseph School- Baga Circle (Calangute).
The road from Baga Circle (Calangute) towards Baga Beach will be ‘ONE WAY’ and no vehicle will be allowed from Baga Beach side towards Calangute. All vehicles proceeding from Baga/Tito’s will exit from Govt. Primary School junction (CCD Junction) or from new Baga Bridge towards Arpora for their onward journey.
No vehicles will be allowed to proceed from Agarwada Junction (Fat Fish Rest.) road towards Govt. Primary School Junction (CCD Junction).
Also, no vehicles will be allowed to proceed from Our Lady of Piety Chapel Junction towards Prabhuwada Junction (way to Joia Do Mar Resort). Vehicles coming to Baga will be parked on the GTDC Ground, Baga and in the field (Sahani Property) before new Baga Bridge and will exit from Baga Bridge towards Arpora – Anjuna side to their respective destinations.
“The road from St. Anthony Chapel towards Mira Hotel upto Baga Circle will be made ‘ONE WAY’. No vehicles will be allowed to proceed from Baga Circle towards Mira Hotel/towards St. Anthony Chapel, Calangute,” he added
SP said that the the road from Jack Sequeira junction towards St. Alex Church via Post Office will be ‘ONE WAY’ i.e. only outgoing traffic from Calangute will be permitted.
“he road from Neelam Glitz Resort to Dharwadkar Hospital Junction will be ‘ONE WAY’ i.c. only outgoing traffic from Calangute will be permitted. Tito’s Lane to Snow Park will be ‘ONE WAY,” he added
Tourist buses proceeding from Panaji/Porvorim to Calangute will be diverted from Dolphin Circle opp. St. Alex Church Calangute towards Bodkevad parking lot (field), about 300 meters from Dolphin circle and in the open space adjacent to Calangute Police Station about 700 meters from Dolphin Circle.
