New Delhi: The much anticipated “Amdar Chashak” league cricket tournament for men and women was inaugurated on Wednesday evening at the Salvador do Mundo ground in Porvorim by Goa Tourism and IT Minister Rohan A. Khaunte.
The four day tournament, which began on May 21, will continue until May 24 and has already generated strong enthusiasm among cricket lovers across the Porvorim constituency. More than 70 men’s and women’s teams are participating in the competition, with the grand finale scheduled for Sunday at the same venue.
Several dignitaries, local representatives, players and supporters attended the inauguration ceremony. Among those present were ZP Member Sandip Salgaonkar, Amit Asnodkar, Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Sonia Pednekar and Porvorim BJP Mandal President Vinit Parab, along with panch members and cricket enthusiasts from across the constituency.
Ahead of the tournament, the official trophy and team jerseys were unveiled during a special ceremony held at ART PARK Porvorim, formally marking the start of the sporting event. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from players, supporters and residents, reflecting the growing sporting culture in the constituency.
Addressing the gathering, Khaunte said the tournament was more than just a sporting competition and represented unity, sportsmanship and youth talent in Porvorim.
“Amdar Chashak is not just a tournament, but a celebration of sportsmanship, unity and youth talent. The enthusiasm among players and cricket lovers clearly reflects the vibrant sporting culture emerging in Porvorim,” he said.
Organisers from Porvorim Rising have invited players, captains, supporters and residents to attend the matches in large numbers and contribute to the success of the tournament. The event is expected to attract huge crowds and create a lively cricket atmosphere in the constituency over the next few days.
