PANAJI: In a significant welfare decision, the Government of Goa has increased the retirement age of Anganwadi workers to 65 years with effect from April 1, recognising their long-standing service and contribution to child care, maternal health, and community welfare across the State.
The move is being seen as a major acknowledgment of the experience and dedication of Anganwadi workers and helpers who serve at the grassroots level in nutrition delivery, early childhood care, and social development.
Alongside this, the Government has also revised the monthly remuneration as announced during the Budget Session of the Legislative Assembly. Anganwadi workers will now receive ₹5,000 per month, while Anganwadi helpers will receive ₹2,500 per month, effective from April 1.
Welcoming the decision, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to strengthening frontline workers. He stated that the enhancement in both service age and remuneration is a recognition of their “lifelong dedication and selfless service towards society,” adding that the decision will bring dignity and financial support to thousands of workers across Goa.
The announcement has been described as part of the State’s broader push towards women-led development and grassroots empowerment under the leadership of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Officials said the decision aligns with the national vision of empowering women in development programmes, in line with the approach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly in strengthening nutrition, child welfare, and community-based services.
The Anganwadi network continues to play a key role in implementing early childhood care and nutrition programmes across rural and urban Goa, with the latest reforms expected to further boost morale and service delivery at the ground level.
