MARGAO: Konkani writer and activist Anwesha Singbal has been elected unopposed for a second term as the President of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa. The new committee has been elected for the year 2023-2026.
The general body meeting of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal was held on April 30 in Madgaon. The meeting elected 12 members of the Mandal as well as 12 Taluka representatives unopposed. Rupesh Kamat acted as the Election Officer. The new committee elected its office bearers today, May 14th. The committee will take its charge on the last Sunday of June i.e. June 25th. Until then, the previous committee will continue to function.
Anwesha Singbal has published four books of poems. Her collection of poems, Sulus, has won the Sahitya Akademi Youth Award. Since 2008, she has been affiliated with the Konkani Bhasha Mandal. In 2012, she became the Secretary of the Mandal. She has coordinated various programs of the Mandal including Shenai Goembaab Kathamal, Goa Yuva Mahotsav and Bal Sahitya Parishad.
“Most of my first term was under the shadow of COVID-19 and lockdown. Despite this, the Mandal continued its work with the help of technology. The new committee would work to bring new youth in the Konkani fold and will try to give momentum to the work of KBM”, Singbal said.
