New Delhi: Indian Army personnel deployed along the Line of Control successfully intercepted an infiltration attempt in the Gulpur sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, detaining a Pakistani national who was allegedly trying to enter Indian territory.
The incident occurred during routine surveillance operations in a forward area near the border. Security personnel noticed suspicious movement close to the LoC fencing during the night and immediately moved to intercept the individual. According to officials, the man attempted to escape after being challenged but was quickly apprehended by troops on duty.
The detained individual has been identified as 26 year old Mohammad Sajjad, a resident of Polas village in the Bandi Abbaspur area of Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the attempted crossing and whether the individual was acting independently or had links to a larger network operating across the border. Officials said no weapons or incriminating material were recovered from him during the arrest.
Following his detention, the individual was shifted to a nearby military facility where he is being questioned by the Army, police and intelligence agencies as part of a joint investigation.
The incident comes at a time when security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir are being strengthened ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra. Investigators are examining whether the infiltration attempt had any connection to the heightened security environment surrounding the pilgrimage.
Security agencies are also exploring the possibility that the individual may have been attempting to gather information on vulnerabilities along the border, although officials stressed that the investigation remains in its early stages.
Meanwhile, surveillance and patrolling along the Line of Control in the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri have been intensified to prevent any infiltration attempts and ensure security during the upcoming pilgrimage season.
