SALIGAO: The Waste Management Minister Atanasio postponed the reply on the Saligao waste treatment plant to the last of the Assembly.
This is the third postponement sought by the Minister on calling attention tabled by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on bringing additional 30 tonnes of waste to the Saligao plant for treatment.
Now he has assured to answer on the last day of the Assembly on August 10.
The garbage issue at Saligao Gramsabha took an ugly turn on Sunday as two groups fought with each other over the garbage plant at the plateau.
The gram sabha resolved to write a letter to the government to stop bringing additional garbage from Sonsodo as per the assurance given to the High Cout by the Chief Minister.
The Sarpanch Lucas Remedious said that the letter will be written to stop transportation within 48 hours failing which the villagers will take further decisions.
However, the issue took an ugly turn when the former sarpanch Eknath Oraskar tried to absolve himself from the allegations of bringing a garbage plant into the constituency during his tenure.
Oraskar said that even though he was part of a delegation to visit Europe for the selection of a waste treatment plant, he was not alone to have taken the decision to bring the plant.
“The plant was brought during the tenure of Dilip Parulekar and Manohar Parrikar. Calangute MLA Michael Lobo was also part of the team to have decided on the issue,” he said.
As Oraskar, a close confidante of MLA Kedar Naik, finished his speech and left he was booed by some people for being the main person to bring a plant.
Following this, supporters of Oraskar manhandled one Milagres and kicked and punched him.
Another group of BJP led by party’s block secretary Pradeep Sawant jumped in to save Milagres.
In the process block president, Ramesh Ghadi and Secretary Pradeep Sawant were seen involved in a verbal duel over the issue.
Both groups levelled allegations against each other.
Milagres and others filed complaints at the Saligao police against several persons.
